The Dewsbury pre-school children were very excited to receive their caterpillars which they are now nurturing until they grow into beautiful butterflies and will release them into our wonderful natural garden.

They have been learning about how the caterpillars grow and taking part in lots of activities relating to the life cycle of a caterpillar and lots of activities to reinforce their learning and enabled them to explore ice in the shape of eggs, moulding their own caterpillar collages through tactile resources and looking for bugs in the garden.

The practitioners have incorporated lots of maths experiences which have enhanced the children’s learning in areas such as positioning, shape, counting, measuring, quantities and volume patterns.

The children check how the caterpillars are growing daily and are enjoying learning how to care for living things are looking forward to the next stage of their cycle.
